I had the opening theme.
I just didn’t know which instrument should play it.

Of all the pieces on the album, this one is by far the most folk-like, and I wanted an instrument used in Nordic folk music.


By chance I saw a Nyckelharpe on the wall in a music shop, and instantly knew that that would be the sound of this piece.

I immediately called Perry, whom I’d never met, and told him about the project.

As fate would have it we were both headed to, not only, the same town, but the very same venue where he was performing with his band ‘Bragr’ and I was giving a lecture on film music.



Shortly thereafter his son, Simon - just 17 at the time - was tragically hit by a car and killed, and everything suddenly seemed so utterly pointless.



We recorded this piece exactly 6 months after that horrible day, in a session that was one of the most powerful I have ever attended.


With some caution I asked Perry if he, and his wife Christine, would allow me to dedicate this piece to their son, and name it is his honor.

I am so grateful that they did.
